Full-Time Software Engineer

Locus Analytics | New York, NY

While on my academic gap year during COVID, I worked as a full-time software engineer for over a year at Locus Analytics. Locus is an economic research firm that studies networks of relationships between businesses, jobs, and products. It is building a global map of local economies that identify, locate and relate each component based on functional attributes.

Accomplishments

  • Led the full stack development of user-friendly business intelligence repositories, enabling a team of 15 internal analysts to create queries, aggregate datasets, and analyze data via a no-code platform, accelerating data management process by ~1 hour per query
  • This platform eliminated the need for analysts to write code by allowing them to effortlessly select diverse filter combinations with a simple button click
  • Insights derived from this platform’s data engineering, quantitative analysis, and data visualizations played a pivotal role in the creation of products that were subsequently marketed and sold to clients
  • Collaborated on entity resolution project, successfully matching millions of records across multiple external datastores by implementing algorithms that increased matching rate by over 25%
  • Performed feature engineering for ML models to enhance predictive accuracy and optimize model performance

Machine Learning Engineer Intern

Syntax Data | New York, NY

Syntax Data, the parent company of Locus Analytics, is a financial technology company that uses Locus' classifcation system for indexing and investing solutions.

Accomplishments

  • Developed an ensemble machine learning architecture that integrated traditional supervised learning techniques with zero-shot and few-shot learning frameworks to automate classifying businesses into Syntax’s proprietary classification system, matching or surpassing human classifier accuracy (achieved 99% sector and 95% sub-sector accuracy)
  • Deployed the ML architecture to production on AWS through SageMaker, EC2 instances, Lambda, and API Gateway, also implementing a data-driven pipeline for automatic model retraining as new data becomes available
  • Developed data science pipeline, empowering internal analysts to perform dynamic industry analysis, culminating in the development of a published paper
  • Led an entity resolution project to map companies in a specific ETF index to their investments, achieving 96% accuracy and 100% precision, resulting in detailed records of investments by index-listed companies

  • Designed and implemented a full data science pipeline to collect, analyze, and leverage customer data on numerous blockchains

Interests

Apart from exploring the latest technology trends, I enjoy being outdoors. My interests span across hiking, skiing, and traveling, having explored landscapes across the United States and Europe, and, as an aspiring photographer and videographer, I enjoy capturing these experiences on camera. I also love sports, playing lacrosse, ice hockey, tennis, golf, and I unconditionally root for New York sports teams.

When stuck inside, I spend a large amount of time with music, having played piano for most of my life. I also enjoy learning to cook, watching movies and TV shows in all genres, and video editing.
